OVERVIEW
Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) models became widely used beginning in the early 1990’s, as a primary catalyst for growth in the economics of many countries. Today, more than 200 countries are using PPP models to bridge the funding gaps for many of their infrastructure projects or to bring private sector capacities into public infrastructure development.
PPP is an alliance between the public and private sectors to deliver quality, value-for-money services to the people. It allows the government to take advantage of private sector financial and development expertise on many complex infrastructure projects.
PPP projects require multi-disciplinary skills to develop, implement and monitor, covering the whole-life of the projects.
The Centre was set up to provide research, capacity building and advisory services to the players in the region, in the field of PPP. It also provides support and services on the entire process development cycle of a PPP project. The principal activities of The Centre are to:
| • |
advise governments on Capacity Building programs on PPP processes |
| • |
advise governments on formulation of PPP Masterplan |
| • |
assist governments to identify private sector investors for PPP projects |
| • |
organise training on PPP and public administration, for the public and private sectors |
| • |
research PPP projects and policies, and public administration of governments |
| • |
collect, collate and disseminate information on PPP to end users |
| • |
publish periodicals and journals relating to PPP |
| • |
advise private sectors on PPP projects, and their financing |
The Centre has established collaborations with the International University College of Technology Twintech, Malaysia to conduct and provide researches and studies on PPPs and PFIs.
In line with our presence in the region, the Centre has also established linkages with international organisations including Partnerships Victoria, Australia; Castalia Strategic Advisors, New Zealand and International University College of Technology Twintech, Malaysia.
